email apathy

I recently got a lovely email from a friend who’s moved out of state. He’s an amazingly eclectic music and movie lover. So when I get movie or music elists with ratings I pour over them for those gems that I would normally over look. I responded to his email like I normally would any one who’s put effort in sharing his finds. Unlike those emails with fwd. Fwd. FWD. then two words and a link. Those I read, send thanks then delete. Of course there are those which need no reply. These include emails that have been mass emailed so many times that the actually body of text is 4 pages in (see pet peeves list) Anywho, my friend was grateful for my reply but his dismay promtped me to post.

friend “It’s like I through my emails off into a dark ravine hoping a reply will shoot back up at me…”

me: “In this age of RSS feeds, twitter, daily (if that) blog posting obligations and then email on top of all that. I find people are to overwhelmed to respond to emails where they aren’t “required” to do so. Required meaning; asked a direct question, obligated to participate or work related…I stopped reading my Google Reader and stopped looking at twitter… I want to give people the response they deserve and with email I can… I’d feel spread to thin (keeping up with it all) and nothing would get replied to cause I’d be to busy trying to read everything. I stick to my email inbox, I’m thinking of adding a couple blogs but fear that might turn into a slippery slope of, well you get the idea. Wasn’t technology supposed to make our lives more efficient so we could spend more time with people we love? I think it’s just given us more distractions from the things that are important!”

Ever start your day like THIS

ugh! Try carrying trash, a HUGE Amazon box and other annoying mail. OH yes, add a little moisture to said trash and BAM! That’s how I started today. Luckily Pierson was far from earshot, cause the language that was used was NOT french.

Stuff Aminals, I haz dem!

At bedtime I walked in to find Pierson with FOUR stuffed animals, two pacifiers and his blanket. You can’t see in this picture but there are also about a dozen books on the floor. Pierson likes to flip through the pages before falling asleep. Daddy does the exact same thing, that is reading before bed. Daddy only has one stuffed animal he sleeps with. Awe I luvs ma boys xoxo

YES plastic is BAD!!

Thus said the Canadians (and toys R us and walmart)

FINALLY research and warnings are being heeded. Canada has banned it and retailers are phasing it out of their inventory.

What is ITBisphenol A (BPA) is a toxic chemical found in some plastics that’s linked to cancer and reproductive problems. Polycarbonate (#7 or PC) bottles made by Nalgene and MANY other companies have been on trial for years now. The verdict is in: guilty, Guilty, GUILTY!! Research has pushed BPA into public view and led to congressional investigations. It’s about freakin time our gov started doing something about our health rather than chat us up with false hopes for universal health care. But I’ll save that conversation for another post.

FYI: Been partaking of the evil plastic, don’t freak out the chemical passes through the body pretty quickly.

Santa Barbara never fails to impress!

I can’t believe my husband withheld such a vital piece of Santa Barbara culture. Had I known there was an underground network of devotees of this stature I would have given Santa Barbara it’s due of RASPECT! I apologize Santa Barbara, please forgive me, I had NO idea.

Aquatic Survival

Some of you know that we are using a chunk of our stimulus check toward ”swim” lessons. Actually we enrolled Pierson into Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) aquatic survival lessons. I’ve been calling them “swim” lessons but when you look at the footage featured on this mornings Today Show it looks nothing like the back stroke. You see kids floating, rolling over in the water, dog paddling underwater with wide eyes and yes some are crying. They cry for all the normal reasons, new people, new environments, lack of control, etc. In time students gain confidence in their abilities and the crying is replaced with “yook mama! I sim, I sim!”. Pierson is in his first week and loving (?) it. He whines, then gets pissed, then laughs, then gets pissed again. All in all it’s totally worth it! He is learning to save his own life if God forbid he falls into a pool. I’m in the process of editing video of his first lesson. More to come…

Interesting Amazon sale

Just had another book purge in our household. Which means I package and send out everything. It’s all pretty boring BUT occasionally I get one that makes me giggle. Would the boss man really appreciate this in the break room? Some one has balls having this mailed to his place of employment OR maybe this was purchased by the boss man. Is he looking to throw in the towel? We will never know, hmmmmmm
