I was talking to my Mom yesterday and she gave me this example, if you had a some one (child, spouse, friend, etc.) going into the hospital to have a much needed surgical procedure, you wouldn’t hear a lot of “advice” that sounded like this; “Make sure to watch the nurses, sometimes they give out the wrong meds. My fill in the blank died in the hospital during a routine procedure.” In some cultures slapping the person would be warranted. No one should be aloud to dish out fear when someone is already living in a cloud of unknowing fear. SIDE NOTE TO SELF: write post about governments use of fear to control the masses, philosophies studied, Leo Strauss, etc.

you made a great point to the woman between the lines: parenthood is a choice. so many people seem to act like they were forced into parenthood — like someone put a gun to their head and told them to stop taking the pill. we choose to have kids when we did. we knew what we were doing! i’m really glad we did, because my kids are awesome and fun amazing. the fun times outnumber the frustrations 100 to 1.

I would have to agree that the woman was pretty rude. Maybe her boys woke her up at 4am and were puking everywhere… who knows. I also agree that that kind of advice is NOT EVER NEEDED (unless in a funny antidote), especially to a stranger! I am glad you said something to her- maybe it got her thinking about her “advice” and that maybe that kind of advice isn’t needed at 6:45 in the morning! Believe me, you’ll be getting more and more “advice” from strangers- YOU ARE THE PARENT, right?
