I love the rain

It’s SO rainy, but most of you already know that. I love the rain, the smell of wet asphalt, the sound of the rain hitting tin covered carport outside my bedroom window. I even love the gray haze that covers the sky, the wind and the cold. The whole package puts a smile on my face. Jason and I have threatened to move to Seattle, peeps always tell us “It’s so rainy, dreary and depressing” WHATEVER!! So what if I like that kind of weather. I don’t mind if peeps don’t move there cause of the supposed mass quantities of rain (San Francisco get’s more rain annually than Seattle) If more peeps think it’s all rain all the time, that’s fine with me. Those cheery little sun shiny peppy people get under my skin. We need the rain, it keeps us from taking our sunny days for granted. The only down side to the rain (besides the scary mudsides)… Californians CAN’T drive in it. It’s like watching a toddler on ice skates for the first time. GEEZ, and the media, STORM WATCH 2006,”Los Angeles has gotten a whapping 2 inches this week.” Wooohoooo, and Shreveport, Louisiana gets something like 8 inches on any given DAY in the spring.

it may get more rain, but it rains more often. the rain up there just isn’t the “pouring” kind. having spent plenty of time in portland (rains even more often than seattle), i can say it’s cool and romantic at first (especially because it’s more pleasant to be in than the stuff we get down here), but soon it starts to get really depressing.

i love rain, but hate having to deal with it.

Yeah, I agree with nathan. I grew up in a place that rained ALL the time- almost EVERY day. It did get pretty stinkin’ cold at times- black ice and slush (snow didn’t stick much). I love the rain too, listening to it and sometimes walking in it. Although it pretty much sucks with a baby- getting in and out of the car, having no where to go but the mall or Alpine to play… I do like the rain though… but not every day- that’s a bit much. Here in Cali we get just enough to like it still.

I’m with you Brooke 100 percent. Driving in it sucks but cooking, sleeping, reading are all quite nice with the sound of rain as a soundtrack.Walking in it is lovely too. I have to admit that last year, I began to dread the rain because it had become violent and caused death and I was afraid I might never enjoy it again. Fortunately I do.

driving in rain is fun. i hate getting out and walking in it. especially the huge drops we get here in socal. from car to front door you’re soaked.

Maybe we need to rethink this; rain vs. storms. SoCal occasionally has storms. As a wise musician once sang, “It never rains in Southern California” (tony, toni, tone). Walking from car to front door and getting soaked seems to be a fast and furious storm. HUGE drops to me are the “sheetsâ€? of “rainâ€? that come down without notice in Louisiana, Florida, etc. Seattle to my understanding has what is closure to “rain” not the occasional storm. Consistent, without warning, and over all part of the locale, make sense?? Which I must say I have never experienced first hand but would be interested in because of my love of the occasional Cali storm.

I love the day after it rains, when the sun shines so bright that it feels like everything is new again!

albert hammond wrote the song, tony toni tone only “borrowed” the hook, omitting the all important next line: “but girl don’t they warn ya, it pours, man it pours.”

every once in a while you’ll catch the original on classic rock radio stations. the softer classic stations, you know, where you’ll hear tunes like macarthur park (someone left the cake out in the rain).

oh, and you might recognize mr. hammond’s name with a “jr.” at the end, because his son, albert hammond jr., is the fro haired guitarist for the strokes.

I agree with all of you, especially “I love the day after it rains, when the sun shines so bright that it feels like everything is new again!”.

Living in the ‘rain’ might not be as hard if you are a homebody like me but the outdoors man at heart of mine would have to suffer. But then there is piece of mind, seems to me nowhere is perfect. Except the island of Lost where is has perfect weather but I guess those polar bears and others suck. ;-)

It rains quite a bit on Lost too, but if it’s anything like Hawaii (where it’s filmed) it doesn’t get cold, which can be a good thing about the rain or a bad thing, depending on your opinion. When we lived in Hawaii and came back here the first time for Christmas, I remember enjoying how cold and crisp the air was during and after the rain.
